Starwood Hotels and Resorts have announced a new partnership that lets members earn points when hiring an Uber taxi.
Members must first link their SPG and Uber accounts at spg.com/uber and complete one qualifying stay in the calendar year at any Starwood hotel worldwide.
All SPG membership tiers earn one point per US dollar spent during an Uber journey. In territories outside the US, the points value is exchanged to the local currency equivalent.
| Points Earned Everyday | Points Earned In-Stay |
Preferred | 1 per $ spend with Uber | 2 per $ spend with Uber |
Gold, Platinum | 1 per $ spend with Uber | 3 per $ spend with Uber |
Platinum 75+ | 1 per $ spend with Uber | 4 per $ spend with Uber |

However, this increases when the member travels in an Uber taxi at the same time as staying at a Starwood hotel. In this instance, Preferred members earn two points per dollar spent, while Gold and Platinum members earn two and Platinum 75+ members earn four.
Uber CEO Travis Kalanick said: "When we looked at how to make the Uber experience even better for our millions of riders worldwide, a partnership with Starwood was a natural fit. There's a Starwood property in the majority of the 291 cities where Uber operates.
"With this first-of-its-kind partnership, SPG members can now get an extra reward for taking an Uber anytime anywhere."
A global parternship, the new Starpoints earning facility is available in every market where Uber operates. Full details can be read at spg.com/uberterms.
Starwood CEO Adam Aron added: "This new partnership with Uber accelerates our SPG members' drive to rewards and is just one more way that Starwood is combining high tech and high touch to transform their travel experiences.
"It is especially satisfying for us at Starwood to be partnering with a cutting edge and innovative pioneer like Uber. It is truly impressive to see how Uber has revolutionised transportation for the better."
When linking their SPG and Uber accounts, members' last name and email addresses must match. Those who are not currently a registered SPG member can sign up at spg.com. To sign up for Uber, visit get.uber.com/spg.
To promote the new partnership, London members (who have linked their accounts) who order an Uber taxi between 1400 and 1900 on Saturday February 28 stand a chance of winning 15,000 bonus Starpoints, the equivalent of a free night at a category one to five Starwood hotel. Each of the 28 winners will be picked up in an SPG-branded Uber taxi and informed they have won.
The #SuiteRide promotion is also being run in Dubai, Mexico City, New York and San Francisco.
