Gatwick users should be aware that the short term multi-storey car park serving the North Terminal has been closed for a ”5.5m ($9.5m) investment programme, which is unlikely to be completed until April 2007. The work follows similar refurbishment projects at the South Terminal's three short term car parks which have now been completed. The refurbishment of all four car parks incorporates better facilities for passengers, including clearer markings and surfaces, and environmental benefits including energy saving lighting.
Alternative parking arrangements for North Terminal short term have been put in place during this period of closure. Passengers should follow signs to the North Terminal Long Term Car Park where a special area has been made available. Additional courtesy buses to and from North Terminal will operate every five minutes with a journey time of seven minutes.
To support this refurbishment project North Terminal's car rental office has been closed temporarily and operations consolidated for the whole airport at the South Terminal car rental building. A courtesy bus service for car rental customers will run throughout the car park closure period between North Terminal and the South Terminal Car Rental building. This service will run 24 hours a day, every four to five minutes during the day and on a reduced service during the night.
The space previously used by the car rental operations in North Terminal will offer limited parking of around 250 spaces for people briefly dropping off or picking up passengers, passengers with reduced mobility, Fast Track passengers and those with parking season tickets at North Terminal. Space is limited and variable maximum length stays will apply.
