Hundreds of drivers were left stranded on the M74 in Scotland overnight due to heavy snow, and the Met Office has issued an amber warning for more winter weather tonight, which could affect travel.
Parts of southern Scotland and north east England are being told to prepare for more heavy snow from 21:00 tonight until 05:00 on Thursday. The Met Office warns that travel disruption is likely, with the potential for vehicles to become stranded on roads as they did last night, while rail and air services may also be affected.
Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England may continue to be affected by wintry conditions into Friday evening, though the Met Office predicts it will be less severe.
All travellers are advised to check the status of their roads, rail lines or airline before departing.
