SCANDINAVIAN TRAVEL times are being reduced by the introduction of new Linx trains, operating at speeds up to 125 mph. A joint venture of the Norwegian and Swedish national railways, Linx service has already reduced Oslo ” Stockholm travel times from more than 6 hours to 4 hours 50 minutes. By next autumn, this journey will take only 4 hours 30 minutes because of improvements to the track and scheduling; further track improvements will eventually reduce the time to only 3 hours. The Linx service is also offered between Oslo ” Gothenburg. The alternative is 330 miles by road which MS Autoroute reckons will take seven hours. It”s a little over one hour by air depending whether you go by turboprop or jet, but you have to get to the airports at each end which can add another hour at least.
