SNCF has launched a tool which allows travellers to compare the environmental footprint of five different modes of transport according to the amount of carbon emissions, journey time and ‘useful time’, the average time available to the traveller on board to go about their business (working, reading, watching a movie, etc.).
The five modes of transport are the train, long-distance coach, car, car-sharing and plane.
The tool covers medium and long-distance services with TGV Inoui (such as Paris-Lyon, Lille-Roissy or Paris-Biarritz), Ouigo services (such as Marne-la-Vallée-Marseille, Massy-Bordeaux or Paris-Nice), Intercités (such as Paris-Clermont-Ferrand or Paris-Limoges), regional trips with TER and services to other European destinations such as London and Geneva.
"The mobility comparison tool will be key to winning back travellers. We need to make the ecological benefit of the train better known to our passengers or to new customers, more and more of whom want to take the environmental footprint into account in their travel choices,” said Christophe Fanichet, chairman and CEO of SNCF Voyageurs.
