Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority is considering the extension of rail travel in Maine from Portland to Brunswick and Lewiston-Auburn. The governor has also recommended introducing a seasonal rail service to vacation spots in the state.
Barbara Merrill, an independent candidate for governor has proposed running a rail service between Portland and Montreal, to be funded partly by the proceeds of a casino car on the train.
