Passengers now have a new option for booking rail tickets online, mytrainticket.co.uk
Mytrainticket.co.uk shows best fares by price and route, and also shows all available Advance, Off Peak and Anytime fares on one page, for all UK train companies. The website also shows where two singles are cheaper than a return.
The website allows users to compare ticket flexibility, journey time and on-train facilities such as wifi internet access and catering.
Robin Wells, executive chairman, said: "The rail ticket market is worth an estimated £6 billion, yet currently less than 15% of rail tickets are purchased online; there is huge potential to replicate the transformation achieved in online ticketing for airlines, where more than 50% of tickets are purchased online.
"We want to encourage more people and more businesses - particularly SMEs - to use the train rather than the car, and to book in advance online. Our significantly improved booking experience is better than anything which already exists and will help grow the market.
"Our vision is to transform the online rail ticketing market using our market-leading experience in delivering mobile and print at home tickets, which use barcode technology. Our website is set up to accommodate a national roll-out of mobile, self print and Smartcard tickets as they are made available on routes by train operators."
The website also has an agreement with Airmiles, so travellers can earn miles when travelling by train - one Airmile for every £10 spent on train tickets.
Mytrainticket.co.uk said it plans to "shake-up" the online market for rail tickets, which it says is "currently dominated by the trainline.com".
