London City Airport's sale to Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), the infrastructure joint venture between Credit Suisse and GE Infrastructure, and AIG Financial Products Corp (AIG-FP), a wholly owned subsidiary of American International Group Inc, has been completed.
From a business travel point of view nothing should change at the airport, managing director Richard Gooding (thumbnail) still very much in command and the airport”s various non-core projects, including Exeter Airport and a vital helicopter initiative for London progressing. Readers might also like to know that the nearby Silvertown station closes permanently on Sunday 10 December.
Passengers who in the past have used the North London Line (Silverlink) services to get to the airport will have to re-route from Monday 11 December. The existing line from Stratford to North Woolwich will close in order to convert the link from Canning Town to DLR standard. When completed by 2010 through trains will operate from Woolwich via LCY to the new International Station in Stratford and the Olympic site. The current links to the Bank, Canary Wharf and Tower Hill are not affected.
