Heathrow Express, the train service connecting central
London to the airport, has announced it will make its move to digital-only
ticket sales permanent and lift restrictions on peak and off-peak fares from
September.
The rail operator introduced digital-only sales in response
to the coronavirus pandemic but will now make this a permanent fixture.
Customers can purchase tickets online via the Heathrow Express website, via the
app and in terminals and stations using card or contactless payment. They can
also use contactless payment or Oyster cards by tapping in and out on ticket
barriers at stations.
In addition, peak and off-peak restrictions will be lifted
from 6 September, meaning customers using single tickets, including those
purchased before 6 September, can travel at any time of day. Previously,
passengers who purchased off-peak tickets could only travel at certain times of
the day.
The £22 Express Class single ticket will also become an
online exclusive for customers using the Heathrow Express website and app.
