Ferry services from Dover to Calais have been disrupted due to a strike by workers at the French port.
Workers from ferry operator My Ferry Link created a blockade that has forced the Port of Calais to close from 03.50 on Tuesday (June 23).
P&O Ferries which operates on the Dover-Calais route said that there “no ship movements” on Tuesday morning and advised those on “non-essential” trips to rebook. My Ferry Link has cancelled all of today’s Dover to Calais services.
The Port of Dover said it was “monitoring” the situation and hoped that ferry services would return to normal “as soon as possible”.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely in liaison with our ferry partners and the Port of Calais in order to resume normal operations as soon as possible,” said the port in a statement.
“Please note that there may be delays to services when the Port of Calais reopens.”
DFDS Seaways said that its services from Dover to Dunkirk were still “operating to the advertised schedule”. Although the ferry firm has advised passengers to “allow additional time for check-in due to congestion” at Dover.
Eurotunnel’s services have also been affected. While trains are still running through the Channel Tunnel, cars have had to find a way through a blockade at Coquelles, where the Eurotunnel terminal is located.
