Conference calls simply don’t cut the mustard, according to a new survey of business travellers in the UK.
Nearly 70% believe it is easier to make decisions, solve problems and gauge reactions if you meet someone in person, revealed a survey by Virgin Trains.
Almost half of respondents admitted to multi-tasking during a conference call, while a quarter confessed to drifting off into a day dream and losing focus.
Jim Rowe, senior communications manager at Virgin Trains, said: “The results of our survey clearly demonstrate the value attached to a face to face meeting.
“Whilst technological advances mean that it is now easier than ever before to be contactable 24/7 it is reassuring to know that people still need to meet people in order to develop and nurture relationships.”
According to Virgin Trains’ survey, 35% of respondents said they are prevented from going to more meetings because they view travel as dead time, while 88% said that if they take the train, they work whilst travelling.
