WATERLOO station London is to cease Eurostar services when the Channel Tunnel Rail Link is completed in 2007, the trains transferring to St Pancras. Quickest journey times will be 2 hours 15 minutes to Paris and 1 hour 53 minutes to Brussels. Whilst Waterloo has a big catchment area stretching from Exeter/Plymouth in the west and including large chunks of the south London commuter belt plus a nearness to Westminster and the City on balance St Pancras seems a logical move and will free up lines into the station and leave behind the heritage of a quality terminal for others to use. Kings Cross/St Pancras has six underground lines and serves Midland Mainline, Thameslink, GNER and WAGN services. Euston, London”s alternative station from the north is close by and both Paddington and Liverpool Street are connected directly by the (currently poor) Circle/Metropolitan line. Our photo shows a stunt last week where an Eurostar engine was floated past Tower Bridge and by the Tower of London's Traitors Gate.
