DOLLAR RENT A CAR, a major US hire operation with over 800 locations, has opened outlets at Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Glasgow and Heathrow airports. This follows the acquisition of the Dollar Rent A Car branding rights in the UK by Flightform UK Ltd, the owner of the Thrifty Car Rental brand. The balance of the 75 Thrifty UK locations will follow. Dollar says that the openings are part of a corporate strategy to expand its international presence by initially offering Dollar branding rights to its existing European Thrifty licensees. This gives the operation the ability to share back-office functions, fleet and maintenance operations, while offering the consumer the expanded option of two brands.
