CHILTERN RAILWAYS and Marylebone Station, as an alternative to the Euston services to Birmingham, is gaining more and more as travellers look to alternative ways of getting to the Midlands in a period of weekend engineering closures on what is seen as the main line.
During the August holiday week (including the Bank Holiday) twice as many passengers as usual were using the service.
It is still more than 12 months off but by the end of next year Chiltern Railways plans to run two trains an hour between Birmingham and London.
Last week the train operator, which has been vigorous in utilising once redundant lines, has again been recognised at the National Rail Awards as the UK Best Rail Route - for the third consecutive year.
