Japan Airlines is developing a low-cost carrier that will
operate flights to Asia, Europe and the Americas within a few years. JAL
tentatively expects to establish the carrier, which is not yet named, in July
and is aiming to begin commercial service from Narita International Airport in
summer 2020, when an expansion project at Narita is scheduled to be completed. The
initial fleet will be two Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

JAL Group already has a minority stake, alongside Qantas, in
Japanese low-cost carrier Jetstar. JAL intends to continue that investment, as
Jetstar focuses on service within Japan and short-haul international flights
and the new carrier will provide medium- and long-haul service from Japan.
