Delta and Aeromexico will launch flights in five new markets
and increase frequencies in four of their current markets this fall.
Altogether, the carriers plan a 10 percent increase in transborder seat
capacity between the U.S. and Mexico by the end of this year, plus further
growth in 2018. Delta and Aeromexico received
antitrust immunity for a joint cooperation agreement late last year, and
Delta increased
its stake in Aeromexico to 36.2 percent in March. The expansion includes:
- New service between Atlanta and both Merida and
Queretaro; between Los Angeles and Leon; and between Mexico City and both
Seattle and Portland, Ore.
- A second daily flight between Los Angeles and Los
Cabos, between Atlanta and Leon and between Atlanta and Guadalajara
- A third daily flight between New York's John F.
Kennedy International Airport and Cancun
Both
the Atlanta-Merida and Portland-Mexico City routes are pending government
approval.
