Southend airport has signed a partnership agreement that will see low-cost carrier Wizz Air launch routes to three European destinations.
Starting this October and November, the airline will add flights to Bucharest, Sibiu and Vilnius, with tickets due to go on sale today through the Wizz Air website, as well as through the major GDSs.
The Sibiu route launches on 30 October and will operate six times a week. Flights to Bucharest will operate five times a week starting 22 November, while the Vilnius service will operate three times a week from 23 November.
All flights will be operated by Wizz Air’s Airbus A320 aircraft.
Wizz Air joins an increasing number of airlines operating flights from Southend, including Easyjet, Air Malta, Ryanair, Loganair and Flybe/Connect Airways. The airport now offers more than 40 domestic and European destinations.
The carrier also operates from Luton, where it is the airport’s largest airline, and Gatwick.
Glyn Jones, CEO of Southend airport owner Stobart Aviation, commented: “All of us at London Southend airport... look forward to welcoming Wizz Air as our newest airline when flights begin in October... We expect that these new routes will prove to be very popular with customers flying to and from Romania and Lithuania.”
