Low-cost carrier Wizz Air’s UK subsidiary is set to become the largest airline at Luton airport after announcing the addition of two new A320ceo aircraft to its fleet.
With the new aircraft comes six new routes from Luton to Bergen and Oslo in Norway, Turku in Finland, Thessaloniki in Greece, Porto in Portugal and Catania in Italy. All flights will launch between 1 July and 17 September.
Wizz Air will also increase frequency on six existing routes, including:
- Double-daily service to Larnaca – up from ten flights per week – from 1 July
- Ten flights a week to Chisinau from 4 April – up from nine per week
- Daily service to Tirana – up from five per week – from 2 July
- Five flights per week to Constanta from 1 July – up from four per week
- 11 flights a week to Athens – up from seven per week – from 16 September
- Ten flights a week to Suceava from 17 September – up from seven per week.
The airline says the two extra aircraft represent an investment of $230 million in Luton and will boost its capacity to 8.7 million seats per year – a 22 per cent increase year on year. It will also bring Wizz Air to a total of 60 routes to 28 countries from the hub.
