Wizz Air, which calls itself a central European low cost airline, is to follow up its new routes from Bucharest to Valencia, Parma and Liverpool with the first ever flights between Tirgu Mures and Luton. From Tuesday 30 October the airline will operate on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between the two points with a scheduled flight time of 2h 40m.
Tirgu Mures is a small Transylvanian town with a 150,000 population and a 50/50 split of Romanian and Hungarian speaking people situated in the centre of Romania, well to the north of Bucharest.
These latest services will complement the carrier”s existing network of three routes from Tirgu Mures (Bucharest, Katowice and Warsaw) and the eight already established destinations from Bucharest.
Wizz Air began operations in May 2004 from Katowice. Today it has five operating bases in the region: Katowice, Warsaw, Gdansk (Poland), Budapest (Hungary) and Sofia (Bulgaria) and offers 90 routes to nearly 50 destinations. Currently the airline”s fleet consists of 11 Airbus A320 aircraft. Wizz Air carried over 3m passengers in 2006.
