Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced a new baggage policy that it claims will ‘ease’ the boarding process for passengers.
The policy, which comes into effect from 1 November, guarantees one free carry-on with dimensions 40x30x20 cm for all passengers.
Customers will need to purchase the Wizz Priority upgrade, which starts at €5, to be able to bring a trolley bag up to 55x40x23 cm in the main cabin. This also entitles them to priority check-in and boarding.
Following in the steps of Irish carrier Ryanair, Wizz is introducing a new checked bag category that will allow passengers to place luggage up to 10kg in the hold, with the fee starting at €7.
The carrier says the change is in response to the growing number of passengers booking shorter trips and packing ‘light and smart’. It claims baggage-related delays affect more than 10,000 flights around the world and that the new policy could help reduce disruption.
Wizz is encouraging passengers to purchase the Wizz Priority option, but bookings made before 10 October for travel after 1 November will automatically be upgraded to a free 10kg checked bag and tickets with a checked bag already included will be upgraded to Wizz Priority.

We want to offer our customers the lowest possible fares as well as a transparent view of ticket pricing. By unbundling products and services, Wizz Air democratises travel and allows for a pay-per-need offer.”
