DELTA AIR LINES has made what it calls as "unprecedented losses" over the last 12 months. The Atlanta based airline says it has to cut its work force by up to 8,000. The third largest carrier in the US reported third-quarter losses of $326m last week as it suffered from the dramatic drop in air travel since last year's terrorist attacks in the US. Delta is to ground its MD-11 fleet and has deferred all mainline aircraft deliveries in 2003 and 2004.
