AMERICAN AIRLINES has had by any standards a pretty tumultuous week with the flight attendants union agreeing a deal on Friday, Donald J. Carty, chairman and chief executive resigning on Thursday and the posting of a $1.04bn (”660m) loss for the first three months of the year on Wednesday. It is till as not clear, however, whether the new leadership and labour deal would be enough to keep American out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. American is the world”s largest airline. Carty, an American Airlines veteran, took over the airline from the legendary Bob Crandall in May 1998, acquiring what was left of TWA 18 months ago. http://www.aa.com
