EMBRAER has reached an agreement with Swiss International Air Lines (the former Swissair) regarding its ongoing short-haul fleet renewal programme In light of the generally unfavourable economic situation, and the carrier”s current condition in particular, SWISS is reducing its firm orders for EMB 170 and EMB 195 aircraft to 30 aircraft, 15 of each model, from an original total of 60 and will not take its first aircraft until August 2004. This leaves the way open for Alitalia to become the first operator of the new aircraft which is expected to be certificated shortly. The aircraft rolled out in October 2001. http://www.embraer.com
