LOS ANGELES and its suburban airports is to become the first true battleground between two of the USA”s most successful airlines. South West, the model for all budget carriers, and Jet Blue, the JFK upstart now getting on for three years old, are from last week in a real head to head. In August 2001 Jet Blue introduced a twice daily JFK ” Long Beech, Los Angeles South, service (now four times daily) and quickly identified the airport for its next hub. There are up to nine daily flights from Long Beach to San Francisco and the airline also serves Washington twice daily. Southwest operates out of four airports in metropolitan LA serving amongst other destinations Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. On 10 October Jet Blue introduced services from Long Beach to these two popular destinations. Jet Blue, an all Airbus airline, is now operating out of the one time home of Douglas Aircraft and now a Boeing assembly plant.
