Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced it will launch a direct, year-round service between the Norwegian city of Stavanger and Manchester on 8 November.
Flights will operate twice a week on Monday and Friday on board a Boeing 737 aircraft (not the 737 Max, which is currently grounded). On Fridays, flights leave Stavanger at 1905 and land in Manchester at 1945 local time, with the return service departing at 2025 and arriving at 2300 local time. Meanwhile, Monday flights take off from Norway at 1930 and arrive at 2010 local time, with the return operation leaving Manchester at 2050 and landing at 2325 local time.
SAS says demand for journeys to Britain has been growing recently, particularly for those travelling to football fixtures in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.
The airline also flies to Manchester from Oslo and Bergen, as well as several daily services between Oslo and London and a new seasonal service between Copenhagen and Cornwall. It will offer a total of 49 flights to Manchester from Scandinavia in its winter schedule.
Torbjorn Wist, financial director at SAS, commented: “We have been fascinated by Liverpool’s sporting success and the popular arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United and this has obviously inspired many Norwegians to travel to the matches. We are delighted to be able to respond to this by introducing so many direct flights with SAS.”
