REZIDOR SAS has started work on the Radisson SAS London Stansted hotel, due to open in July 2004. The new 500 room property, which, when it opens, will be the largest hotel directly linked to a British airport, boasts a 320m square main hall, 25 conference and meeting rooms and a leisure complex including a swimming pool. Kurt Ritter, president and CEO of Rezidor SAS Hospitality said that the company sees airport properties as a major growth market. ”Stansted followed the success of the Radisson Manchester Airport, and in fact we used the funds made available by the sale and lease back of that property to finance this development. We have other airport projects under way, and also in our minds. Air travel continues to grow. It is a key area for Rezidor SAS.” BAA Lynton, the property group, said that the next major UK airport site likely to be on offer is a massive 600 bedroom complex at Heathrow T5, due for completion in 2007/2008.
