Qatar Airways Group has increased its share in International Airlines Group (IAGInternational Airlines Group - the parent company of British Airways and Spain's Iberia which was created by the merger of the two carriers in 2010) from 21.4 per cent to 25.1 per cent.
The news comes after IAG’s board decided to lift a limit on non-EU shareholding that had been introduced in 2019.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, commented: “Our investment to date has been highly successful and the announced increase in our shareholding is evidence of our continue support of IAGInternational Airlines Group - the parent company of British Airways and Spain's Iberia which was created by the merger of the two carriers in 2010 and its strategy.
“Qatar Airways continues to consider opportunities to invest in airlines and support management teams that share our vision to enhance travel opportunities for airline passengers across the globe.”
Last month, IAG chief executive Willie Walsh announced he will step down from his role on 26 March, with his retirement to follow at the end of June. Former Iberia CEO Luis Gallego has been appointed to succeed him.
