BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT has put into service its new ”11m people mover operation between the airport and the international station/NEC complex. Capable of shifting over 1,600 people an hour, and based on the highly successful system used to link hotels at Las Vegas, the Austrian-built cable-driven system replaces MAGLEV which served Birmingham 10 years. Included in the package is a new and impressive interface with the rail station. Skyrail is fully automated with a transfer time of less than 90 seconds. SkyRail signals the completion of a major investment programme at Birmingham airport including much better road links into the M42 and the A45. Birmingham clearly is at the forefront of ”ease of use” British airports. http://www.bhx.co.uk
