MYTRAVELLITE says that it has taken nearly 80,000 bookings since the airline was announced back in August. The budget carrier actually took off on 1 October offering daily flights from Birmingham International Airport to Alicante, Belfast International, Geneva, Malaga and Paris (Beauvais) using a pair of Airbus A320s. MytravelLite is a paperless airline and does not offer seat allocation. A further pair of A320s are due for arrival in April 2003 to be used on undisclosed routes out of Birmingham. However a shadow must be cast over the airline due to the serious problems afflicting its owner the Mytravel Group (formerly Airtours). Managing director Tim Jeans, formerly Ryanair sales director, pulled out of the ABTA convention on Friday and was replaced on a panel discussing the impact of low-cost carriers by David Magliano of Go, an airline that will definitely disappear at the end of the winter season.
