Munich Airport says that passenger traffic is “beginning to
soar once again” and said that for the first time in more than a year it had
handled more than 50,000 passengers on two days in July. It is
forecasting the number of travellers for the month to surpass the one-million
mark.
The airport shared the news as it revealed that passenger numbers for the first half of 2021 were 2,216,915, down from 7,767,964 last year.
Revealing the figures it said “the monthly trend reveals
that demand in the aviation industry has been growing stronger since the
beginning of the year [with] both aircraft movements and passenger volume having
steadily risen higher every month since February”.
The CEO of Flughafen München, Jost Lammers said, “We have
hopefully made it through this rough patch and are leading Munich Airport
further out of the crisis. I am confident that our airport will regain its
status as a premium hub and then the volume of traffic will reach and even
surpass its previous high."
