MANCHESTER AIRPORT is considering introducing a biometric security system across the airport site, following a successful trial of the technology earlier this year. The airport has sent the results of the trial to the Department for Transport, which governs security at British airports. The technology would see staff using biometric hand-recognition machines to gain access to employee-only areas of the airport. Passengers would continue to have their identities checked in the current way through the examination of their passports or driving licences. The move follows a pilot scheme earlier this year in which 68 office-based airport workers used a similar machine to access administrative areas of the site. London City Airport is also to trial the scheme. http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk
