The Lufthansa Group is further restricting exceptions from the
obligation to wear a mask or face covering on board flights, with passengers with medical
exemptions to be required to produce a negative coronavirus test result before boarding.
The change goes into effect for all the group’s airlines
from 1 September. Passengers with an exemption can download a certificate from
their airline’s website. This must be signed by a physician. In addition,
passengers who are unable to wear a mask during the flight must present a
negative Covid-19 test result that is no older than 48 hours at the scheduled
take-off time. Previously, people with medical exceptions only had to present
the physician’s certificate.
Lufthansa said customers are being notified of the new
policy via its airlines’ websites and social media channels, as well as via
email and SMS text message, so they can prepare for the change.
