Scottish carrier Loganair has announced it will add daily services between Southend and Glasgow, Stornoway and Aberdeen this May, providing an alternative route to London from Scotland.
The Aberdeen and Glasgow routes will feature three non-stop return flights Monday to Friday, along with two Sunday services. Flights will be operated by Loganair’s Embraer 145 regional aircraft.
Stornoway flights will have a stop in Glasgow but provide the first-ever services from a Scottish island airport to London (albeit via a 53-minute train ride to London Liverpool Street station from Southend). They will operate once a day Monday to Friday and once on Sunday.
The Aberdeen flights launch on 12 May, while Glasgow and Stornoway will follow on 28 May. Journey times are under three hours from Stornoway, an hour and 35 minutes from Aberdeen and an hour and 20 minutes from Glasgow.
Loganair announced last month that it had agreed a five-year ground handling services contract with Stobart Aviation Services – part of Southend airport owner Stobart Group – and that the new routes would further develop the two companies’ business relationship.
Loganair MD Jonathan Hinkles said: “We’re incredibly excited to be offering the first new routes between London and Scotland in many years, linking three Scottish airports to London Southend.
“Our schedule is designed to offer maximum flexibility for passengers regardless of their requirements – whether that’s a one-day return, overnight stop, or a longer break exploring the city. It’ll also be attractive to leisure customers from South-East England wishing to visit the Highlands and Islands with only a quick transfer in Glasgow or Aberdeen.”
