KLM says it will make a loss in its current financial year. The airline had been expecting an operating profit but is now saying this is unlikely even if the ”160m charge for the split from former partner Alitalia is excluded. The Dutch airline's ability to win and retain passengers drove its load factor to a peak of 81.6% in September. But traffic has been under pressure since then. Last month KLM warned that the company would have to cut costs to prevent another loss next year. KLM has already cut some routes and said it was reviewing its capacity and route network. On a slightly more positive note BA reaffirmed it was on target to make a modest profit for the year ending in March. when announcing December figures, but lower than last year. However, it is benefiting from a cost-cutting programme which has led to sharp cuts in staff levels and the route network.
