ISLES OF SCILLY: Southampton airport is to be linked to the island”s capital St Mary”s next summer for the first time since Brymon dropped the route in the 1980s. The new service is seen as a significant breakthrough for the islands saving an arduous road journey to western Cornwall to use the ferry or helicopter services. Alternative air links are those from Penzance, Bristol, Exeter, Newquay and Plymouth. The new service will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays using an Isles of Scilly Skybus Twin Otter aircraft routing via Newquay. With Southampton Parkway station just by the airport terminal the new routing is now easily the quickest way to the islands by public transport from London.
