ITA Airways has launched a new direct route between Rome Fiumicino and London City Airport as the Italian flag carrier looks to expand its network across the UK.
The new seasonal service will operate 12 times weekly this summer and will be served by Airbus A220-100 aircraft, featuring 125 seats configured into business and economy cabins.
ITA Airways COO, Emiliana Limosani, said the new connection will support both business and leisure traffic as the UK becomes “an increasingly strategic market” for the airline, which was recently acquired by European aviation giant Lufthansa Group.
The new FCO-LCY route follows the carrier’s recent introduction of a fourth daily service between Milan Linate and London City earlier this year. A fifth daily service is set to commence this month, bringing the total number of weekly frequencies between Linate and London City airports to 31 throughout the summer peak.
In June, the carrier will also increase flight frequencies between Rome Fiumicino and London Gatwick to seven weekly services.
Throughout the summer season, the carrier will provide a total of 100 weekly connections between Italy and the UK.
