HOT SHOT PILOTS: (see last week”s editorial) It has been reported in the United States that four of the 48 airline pilots who began the first training course for gun carrying cockpit crew were rejected after they failed at least one of the battery of required background checks, psychological exams and firearms tests. Details are not clear and Transportation Security Administration were not forthcoming citing privacy rules. It is to be assumed that the authorities were thorough in the selection of this first class wishing to really make an impact. If 10% were not able to clear the first hurdle ABTN”s comments are even more worrying than first thought.
