Heathrow has today released images of the airport with a third runway.
The pictures include a new central terminal area and business park.
The airport’s expansion plans include two main passenger terminals and transport hubs – Heathrow West (Terminals 5 and 6) and Heathrow East (an extended Terminal 2) – connected by an underground passenger transit and baggage system.
Minimum connection times between terminals would fall from 75 to 60 minutes if Heathrow is given the go-ahead by government.
There would be an overhaul of cargo facilities with improved and increased capacity as well as land set aside for commercial developments such as office and hotels.
Heathrow claims that a three-runway airport would provide up to 740,000 flights a year and sufficient hub-airport capacity until at least 2040.
The British Chambers of Commerce has today spoken out against both London mayoral candidates’ stance on Heathrow.
