Confusion still reigns concerning the exact number of fatalities in this morning”s Garuda Indonesia accident, that saw one of the carrier”s aircraft catch fire on landing at Adisucipto Airport, Yogyakarta.
Figures have fluctuated between 22 and 49 deaths on board the Boeing 737-400 (flight GA200) operating between the Indonesia destinations of Jakarta and Yogyakarta, although a Garuda statement says that 93 passengers have so far been evacuated and taken to hospital.
The aircraft, carrying 133 passengers and seven crew, was last positioned at the end of runway 09 at the eastern side of the airport and has now been dealt with by firefighters, who have extinguished the flames.
