CORK and its airport hosted the 3rd Forum on Air Transport in Remoter Regions last week. Organised by Cranfield University the Forum provided an opportunity for representatives from a range of organisations with an interest in air transport in remote regions (including local authorities, airports, airlines and academics) to exchange views and discuss policy issues. Over 70 people from 10 European countries (including representatives from remote regions in UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and the Azores among others), Canada and the US discussed a number of key issues including the topical Public Service Obligation / Essential Air Service (ie subsidised air service) provision in European countries. A number of British airlines are now now seeking advantage of these schemes. www.cranfield.ac.uk
