EasyJet is expanding its operations from Lisbon this winter after being allocated 18 new daily slots at the city’s airport by the European Commission.
The airline will base three extra Airbus A321neo aircraft at Lisbon airport, taking its total number of aircraft based in Portugal up to 19, and allowing it to launch 14 new routes from Lisbon, as well as increasing frequencies to another existing seven destinations.
The expansion will allow easyJet to become Lisbon’s second largest airline after Tap Air Portugal this winter as it increases seats by 61 per cent year-on-year to 1.75 million.
EasyJet’s new routes from Lisbon in winter 2022/23 include Birmingham, Barcelona, Valencia, Marseilles, Toulouse, Zurich, Milan Bergamo and Marrakech.
Jose Lopes, easyJet’s country manager for Portugal, added: “We are particularly happy to be bringing the A321neo to Lisbon which will contribute to making our operations more sustainable.
“Despite the challenging external environment, we've never stopped investing in Portugal in the last two years, opening a new base In Faro in 2021 and continuously launching new routes from both Lisbon and Porto throughout the period.”
EasyJet’s new routes and additional frequencies from Lisbon will go on sale from 15 August.
