TURKISH AIRLINES, became the second air carrier to suffer a loss last Wednesday when an AVRO RJ100 crashed, with over 70 souls on board, attempting to land on a flight from Istanbul in what was described as ”foggy conditions” at Diyarbakir, in the south east of the country close to the border with Iraq and Syria. There were five survivors. On Thursday a Tans Airline Fokker F28 went down approaching the jungle city of Chachapoyas, 400 miles north of Lima with the loss of all 42 passengers. After 2002 being one of the safest years on record for air transport 2003 has got off to a bad start.
