Spanish carrier, clickair, is expanding its services to Scotland with the introduction of flights to Edinburgh. The airline, which claims to be the first low cost airline into Heathrow having arrived at the London airport earlier this year, will launch daily services from the Scottish city to its home base at Barcelona on 1 August.
The route will be operated by dedicated Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring 180 soft leather Recaro seats, with a flight time of a little more than 2h 30m. Clickair is a true budget carrier, offering no pre-assigned seats and an on-board refreshment sales service.
”We are delighted to add Scotland to our list of destinations,” said clickair CEO, Alex Cruz. ”Edinburgh is a great complement to our existing London services, our two regions are especially close and we are proud to offer all kinds of travellers ” business people, tourists and students alike ” a product they can tailor to their needs.
”We want to cover the huge existing demand in Scotland for Barcelona ” the Mediterranean city combining the best in culture, architecture and leisure,” he added.
BAA Edinburgh Airport managing director, David Johnston said: ”This new daily service to Barcelona gives our passengers even greater choice and flexibility. We are delighted to welcome clickair to Edinburgh and look forward to working together to ensure the success of this route, which we are certain will prove very popular.”
The new clickair service joins existing UK flights connecting Seville, Valencia and La Coru”a with London, and Barcelona to Dublin. Clickair is in many ways a by-product of Iberia ” initially using aircraft formerly operated by the Spanish national carrier, but with a completely new management team.
The airline is backed by five Spanish companies, each with a 20% share of the equity: Iberia; Nefinsa (parent of successful Spanish regional airline, Air Nostrum); Spanish construction group Cobra; hotel and resort company Iberostar; and Quercus Equity, a private equity fund that is part of the Agrolimen Group.
