Cathay Pacific has launched its new Prepaid Extra Baggage booking service, which offers a 20 per cent discount on the standard excess baggage rate.
Passengers are currently entitled to between 30kg and 50kg of standard luggage allowance depending on their class of travel. Those wanting to bring more baggage than this on a Cathay Pacific-operated flight can now prepay online, with prices for flights from Europe to Hong Kong, Mainland China, East Asia, or South East Asia standing at £122 (US$160) for every extra 5kg up to a maximum of 50kg if they book at least 24 hours before departure.
Previously, customers could only pay for excess baggage at airport check-in desks, but Cathay Pacific says the new pre-paid system can save passengers £300 on an extra 50kg of luggage.
The news follows Cathay Pacific’s partnership with Airportr, which allows passengers departing from Heathrow to have their check-in bags – including any excess – collected from their home and delivered to the airport.
Prices for excess baggage for flights originating from or landing at other destinations range from US$50 to $240 per 5kg.
