TENERIFE NORTH, Los Rodeos Airport, once the main airport of the island before the Tenerife South was opened, is now served again from the UK. Britannia Airways has introduced weekly charter services from both Gatwick and Manchester much to the delight of the local tourism authorities keen to attract more visitors to the Las Palmas area of the island. The airport is also served from Madrid and by inter-island flights. The airport is sadly synonymous with a tragic Dan Air crash in April 1980 when a Boeing 727, inbound from Manchester, crashed into a nearby mountain range killing all 146 people on board. http://www.aena.es
