BOEING is to push ahead with development of the ultra long range 777-200LR. Development of the 300-seat aircraft was stopped in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US in 2001, but Boeing says it is confident there will be a strong market for the aircraft. It will be capable of operating non-stop services, typically Singapore - New York, Dallas - Hong Kong, Mumbai - Los Angeles and Chicago - Sydney. London to Sydney non-stop is a possibility in around 18 hours. (The aircraft will also carry up to 18 tons of cargo on routes that are payload limited for other planes. Pakistan International Airlines and EVA Airways of Taiwan have ordered a total of five 777-200LRs. PIA will take delivery of the first in January 2006. http://www.boeing.com
