AUSTRALIA has jailed a Briton for three months (two of them suspended) after he threatened to hijack a Qantas aircraft whilst drunk. Thomas Lilico, from Darlington, who claimed to have drunk some eight pints of beer before boarding a flight from Cairns to Darwin, sprayed an aerosol around the cabin and spoke to friends about using a knife to hijack the aircraft. Lilico was taken from the flight before take-off and charged. In fact he was found not to be in possession of a knife and the supposed aerosol turned out to be an asthma inhaler. Lilico later claimed to have no recollection of the incident but admitted making a threatening and false statement in breach of Australia”s new ”zero tolerance” policy.
