NEW YORK Kennedy Airport will not be introducing its much delayed ”Airtrain” monorail scheme until the autumn. It is designed to link the central terminal area with downtown New York via connections at Howard Beach and Jamaica stations, which are both adjacent to the airport. Journey time to central Manhattan will be reduced to as little as 40 minutes, quicker than taxi and certainly speedier than the current bus service. Newark, the larger of New York”s international airports, and now renamed Newark Liberty, has had its monorail in place since opening quietly in October 2001. Airtrain with both the New York Subway and Amtrak, transferring passengers to Penn Station New York in 30 minutes for just $11.99. Last year 1.1m passengers used the service. http://www.panynj.gov
