Flight International, the London-based weekly aerospace magazine, is publishing weekly its A-Z of world airlines (first issue 27 March).
Its editorial comments: ”In spite of the collective losses of the airline industry during recent years, there is never a shortage of people with enough money, and some would say less sense, to start a new airline. Of the 1,600 airlines in the three-part directory, 39 have started operations since the start of 2006. Another 60 are proposed, usually seeking money, also needing equipment and licences to get off the ground.”
On the downside Flight has recorded 38 airline closures in this latest edition. There is even one airline that was both born and deceased within one year ” not the first time this has happened.
