AIRASIA may not be known at all in Europe but Malaysia's second national airline has celebrated its first year anniversary as a no frills carrier. The new AirAsia was created in December 2001 with the amalgamation of two local airlines creating the first ticketless airline in the Far East. AirAsia commenced operations a month later and since then the airline has made waves not only in its home country but also in the region. The airline has increased its fleet from two Boeing 737-300 to seven, flying 12.5 hours a day, and has expanded its routes from three to ten. Over 1m passengers have been carried. An experienced airline expert has described it as Ryanair operations philosophy, easyJet marketing, Southwest people policies, Malaysian friendliness. http://www.airasia.com
